Transport to and from Honolulu Airport

HNL is accessible by car, bus, taxi, and shuttle. The H1 Interstate Freeway has both eastbound and westbound exits that connect directly to the Honolulu airport.

Taxi

Taxi's can be hired on the center median in front of the baggage claim area. Taxi dispatchers wear yellow shirts marked with the words "Taxi Dispatcher" in black. All taxis use a meter. A typical cost to Waikiki is USD $40.00-$45.00 with a maximum of 4 people, plus a small baggage fee of 40-45 cents per bag. During periods of heavy traffic the meter fee can be higher.

Bus

City & County provides service from the airport. Buses run every 30 minutes approximately, depending of the route number. Location of the bus stops: second level roadway along the center median. Bus routes are:

 

19: Airport-Waikiki / Airport-Hickam Air Force Base

- Eastbound route: Airport - Kalihi Kai (via Nimitz Highway) - downtown Honolulu - the Honolulu Civic Center - Ala Moana Shopping Center - Waikiki.

- Westbound route goes from the airport and ends at Hickam Air Force Base.

 

20: Airport - Waikiki / Airport - Pearlridge Shopping Center

- Eastbound route: Airport - Kalihi (via Nimitz Highway) - downtown Honolulu - the Honolulu Civic Center - Ala Moana Shopping Center - Waikiki.

- Westbound route: Airport - Arizona Memorial - Aloha Stadium - Aiea - Pearlridge Shopping Center.

 

31: Tripler Medical Center-Kalihi Transit Center / Airport-Kalihi Transit Center

- Eastbound route: Tripler Medical Center - Kalihi Transit Center.

- Westbound route: Airport - Kalihi Transit Center

 

Routes 9, 40, 40A, 42 and 62 run on Nimitz Highway within walking distance of the airport.

 

Fees:

- If child sits on adult's lap (max. age 5) - Free

- Children & Students (6-17 years) - $1.25

- Adults - $2.50

- Senior Citizen with Reduced Fare card / valid US Medicare card - $1.00

- Visitor Pass - four consecutive day pass. Unlimited use - $25.00

- Monthly Bus Pass Student, up to high school - $30.00

- Adult - $60.00

- Senior Bus Pass with Senior card - $10.00

 

Baggage Rules: No backpacks with metal frames allowed. No bag may be larger than 22"x14"x9".

SpeediShuttle

Provides door to door service from the airport to the place where you stay.

Depart within 20 minutes of check-in with Shuttle Attendant at pickup zone.

Shuttle stops are located on the ground level, next to baggage Claim C (Interisland Terminal), as well as, curbside at the Overseas Terminal (between Baggage Claim D & E), in front of the Commuter Terminal and on the median curb outside Baggage Claim H.

- Waikiki - Honolulu Harbor (one way) - from $15.48

- Waikiki - Honolulu Harbor (round trip) - from $29.41. (10% discount on the return segment when booked at the same time as your initial travel)
